A portable machine suits small spaces like units, granny flats and caravans, or for small loads between big washes. Check the load capacity in kg, how it fills and drains, and the dimensions. You will need a power point and a spot near a tap or sink.

A dryer stand holds a clothes dryer above a washing machine, bench or bar fridge, so you use vertical space instead of floor space. Check that the stand's size and weight rating suit your dryer, and whether it needs to be fixed to the wall.
