(1213 products)

Media storage keeps DVDs, games, consoles and devices organised and off the floor. Choose a DVD cabinet with doors to hide clutter, open multimedia shelving for easy access, or a tower that fits a narrow wall. Check shelf depth fits your cases and devices, and leave airflow around electronics. Pair it with tv units, bookcases and storage cabinets.

How to choose media storage

What you need to store

Start with a quick count of what is going in. DVDs and Blu-rays need shallow shelves, vinyl records need taller, deeper compartments, and consoles and set-top boxes need open shelves with space behind for cables. The range covers TV cabinets, entertainment units, DVD and CD cabinets and record cabinets.

Size it around your TV and wall

For a TV cabinet, choose one at least as wide as the TV, ideally a bit wider so it looks balanced. Check the listing for the maximum TV size and weight it can hold. For a narrow wall or a spot beside the couch, a tall DVD tower takes less floor space.

Doors, drawers or open shelves

  • Doors and drawers: hide clutter and keep dust off discs.
  • Open shelves: easier for remote signals and airflow around devices.
  • Glass doors: show off a collection while keeping it clean.

LED lights and wall-mounted styles

Some entertainment units have built-in LED lighting, some with a remote control to change the colour. Floating, wall-mounted units free up the floor and make cleaning easier, but you need to fix them into studs or solid walls. Look for cable holes at the back to keep cords tidy.

Price and materials

Most units are engineered wood in white, wood tone or black. Small cabinets start from about $40, with most TV units and media cabinets around $120 to $180. For overflow, add wall shelves or a display cabinet.

Media Storage: common questions

What is the best way to store DVDs?

A DVD cabinet or tower with shelves sized to the cases keeps them upright, easy to scan and free of dust. Cabinets with doors hide the collection and protect discs. Count your discs first and check the stated capacity or shelf spacing on the listing.

What size TV unit do I need?

Choose a unit at least as wide as your TV, ideally a little wider. Check the listing for the maximum screen size and weight. The top of the unit should put the middle of the screen close to eye level when you are seated.

Can I store vinyl records in a media cabinet?

Yes, if the compartments are tall and deep enough. Records need about 32 cm of height and depth, and they should stand upright, not lie flat. Some cabinets in the range are made for records, so check the internal shelf dimensions on the listing.

How do I hide cables behind a TV unit?

Look for units with cable holes in the back panel, then use ties or a cable tray to bundle cords together. Wall-mounted units can run cables behind the wall if an electrician installs it. Leave space behind devices so they don't overheat.

Are wall-mounted entertainment units strong enough?

They are when fixed properly. Screw them into wall studs or use anchors rated for your wall type, and stay within the weight limit on the listing. For plasterboard walls without studs in the right spot, a floor-standing unit is the safer choice.

Do media cabinets need assembly?

Most do, as they arrive flat packed with fittings and instructions. Larger entertainment units with drawers or LED lights take longer, and two people make it easier. Check the listing for what is involved.
